Gift in kind:Gift in Kind is a great way to part with an item that you may no longer need or want. Should the item be of use to Daybreak, we will gladly accept it and provide you with a receipt for the fair market value of the good. If you think you have something we would like - please give us a call. Gift of securities:Did you know that if you donate certain securities to a Registered Canadian Charity that you do not pay Capital Gains tax? You pay capital gains tax on just over 40% right now, but if you gift us the stock, you pay nothing! It is estimated that Canadians hold a total of $1.3 trillion in securities and about half of that is capital gains. Gifts of securities are a great way for donors to execute philanthropy planning to the charity organization of their choice rather than the tax man. Charitable gifts such as these have been rising steadily from $69 million in 1997 to $200 million in the year 2000. Daybreak is completely set up to receive securities as gifts - we'd love to talk to you today if you are interested in seeing how this may work for you. Life insurance benefitsLife Insurance is another great way to support Daybreak. The charitable life insurance program allows donors to provide for a larger legacy later in life for a smaller commitment today. Donors receive an income tax receipt for the entire amount of the life insurance premiums donated each year. When the life insurance proceeds are transferred to the charity (at the donor’s death) there is no additional tax receipt generated for the donor’s estate but the funds are received by the charity tax-free.This is another easy way that has significant tax benefits.
